In a proactive initiative ahead of World Mental Health Day, Eldoret National Polytechnic hosted a mental health awareness session aimed at promoting well-being among staff. Themed “It Is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” the event featured presentations from various department heads, including former health sciences lecturer David Litalla and guidance and counseling head Madam Peris Ngala.

Litalla emphasized the importance of mental health as a primary concern for staff, urging them to seek professional counseling, maintain regular exercise, and adopt healthy eating habits. He encouraged open conversations about mental health issues, stating, “Sharing your concerns with someone you trust can be incredibly beneficial.”

During the session, Litalla highlighted the advantages of fostering a positive working environment. He noted that reducing workplace stress can lead to improved job satisfaction, lower absenteeism, and enhanced productivity. “A conducive work environment not only boosts morale but also results in high-quality production,” he explained.

Litalla also addressed the stigma surrounding mental health, stressing the importance of creating a supportive culture within the institution. “By working together to prevent stress, we can improve overall well-being and productivity,” he concluded.

The session concluded with a call for staff to integrate mental health awareness into their daily routines, underscoring the collective responsibility to foster a healthy workplace.
