Natembeya Urges Kitale Board to Work Hard

Governor George Natembeya has encouraged the newly appointment members of the Kitale Municipal Board to roll back their sleeves and make the municipality a conducive environment for investments.

He expressed confidence on the seven new appointees to the board just as he challenged them to discharge their mandates with due diligence with the goal of positively transforming lives by ensuring favorable grounds for business growth.

The County boss however cautioned the new board members of to avoid conflicts of interest as they carry out their responsibilities.

Natembeya noted that the municipality will receive huge resources aimed at improving Kitale, which may tempt some members to engage in unethical behavior.

The governor was addressing the new Board members during their swearing-in ceremony at Kitale Town Hall on Friday.

The new Board consists of Wilberforce Sikuku as Chair, and members Davis Lumbasi, Alice Waruguru, Victor Simiyu, Janet Kemunto, and former Sitatunga MCA Daniel Kaburu.

Referring to the municipality as a semi-autonomous county government agency, Natembeya emphasized that it will have the freedom to operate without interference from the executive regarding the use of resources.

However, he urged the Board to collaborate closely with county government officials to improve services.

“I want to advise you members to always stick to the law to better our Kitale town,” he said, adding that the Board is composed of a capable team dedicated to serving the people.

The governor also encouraged the Board to focus on all areas of the municipality to help in its development.

He further urged the staff from various departments, who have been seconded to the Board, to commit fully to the municipality.

Natembeya also called on the team to ensure the fair distribution of business spaces in all market.

CEC lands physical planning housing and Urban development Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama, whose department oversees the Municipal Board, said the establishment of the Board opens opportunities for donor funding, particularly from the World Bank, for various projects.

She committed to expediting the policies from the Board for approval by the Cabinet.

The event was attended by MCAs Alfred Weswa who is also the lands commitee chair at the County Assembly of Trans Nzoia (Sirende) Eric Wafula minority leader (Hospital), Furaha Lusweti (Waitaluk), Francis Were (Tuwan), and nominated MCA Tabitha Waruguru.

Other officials present included County Secretary Truphosa Amere, Kitale MunicipalManager Irine Nang’ole,CECM Bonniface Wanyonyi (Water), Pepela Wanjala (Finance), and Chief Officers Sammy Sichangi (Governance),Dr. Rosely Nasiebanda (Lands), and Joseph Wasike (Roads).
