Gachagua Blames Ruto for His Downfall
In a dramatic turn of events in Kenyan politics, impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly directed his frustration at President William Ruto, following his recent removal from office. Gachagua, who has been hospitalized for health issues, expressed his shock and disappointment during interviews with various media outlets.
His impeachment came after a decisive vote in Parliament, where 281 MPs and 53 senators supported his removal. Gachagua revealed his feelings of betrayal, stating, “I am shocked by how a man I helped become President, a man I believed in, could be so vicious against me while I am fighting for my life.”
Gachagua claims that Ruto orchestrated efforts to undermine him at a vulnerable moment, including preventing him from attending the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kwale County. “The man I am seeing today is not the one I thought I knew,” he lamented.
Following the impeachment, Gachagua’s staff were placed on compulsory leave, a move he attributed to Ruto’s intentions to humiliate him further. Despite the turmoil, Gachagua maintained that he holds no grudges. “I bear no grudges against anyone, but I never expected this from President Ruto.”
In a swift response to Gachagua’s impeachment, President Ruto nominated Ibrahim Kithure Kindiki, the former Interior Security Cabinet Secretary, as the new Deputy President. Meanwhile, Gachagua’s legal team has taken action, moving to court in an effort to challenge his removal, urging Ruto to adhere to court orders.
As this political saga unfolds, the implications for the future of Kenya’s leadership remain uncertain. Gachagua’s vocal criticism of Ruto marks a significant shift in their once-close alliance, raising questions about the stability of the current administration.
