Assault Incident Sparks Protests in Rongo, Migori County
A violent incident involving a county enforcement officer has led to significant unrest among lorry operators in Rongo after the officer allegedly assaulted a truck driver for urinating in public.
Pius Onyango, chairperson of the Rongo Lorries Transporters SACCO, reported that the driver sustained serious head injuries during the confrontation. In response, lorry operators organized protests, demanding accountability for the officer’s actions and calling for his arrest and prosecution.
John Kobado, a member of Migori’s Executive Committee for Public Service Management, confirmed that an investigation is currently underway. He condemned the officer’s behavior, labeling it unacceptable and reminding county workers to treat residents with respect.
Kobado also stated that the county government would cover the medical expenses for the injured driver, reinforcing their commitment to addressing the incident appropriately.
