Governor Kihika Advocates for Public-Private Partnerships to Drive Infrastructure Development
In a recent address, Governor Susan Kihika emphasized the urgent need for innovative funding solutions to address Nakuru County’s infrastructure challenges. Speaking to a gathering of local leaders and residents, Kihika expressed her frustration over the conflicting sentiments surrounding the government’s financing strategies.
“We all desire progress,” Kihika stated. “Yet, we simultaneously oppose government borrowing while demanding major projects like the dualling of the Rironi-Mau Summit Road and the completion of the Itaare Dam. Our expectations must align with the realities of our financial landscape.”
Kihika highlighted successful examples of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) from around the world, citing major airport developments that have significantly enhanced infrastructure without placing undue strain on public finances. “Airports like JFK and Heathrow have thrived through these partnerships,” she noted. “Kenya must adopt similar models to drive our own growth.”
The Governor acknowledged the skepticism surrounding PPPs but urged residents to recognize their potential. “We cannot afford to be cynical about every initiative. It’s time to embrace sustainable solutions that leverage both public resources and private expertise.”
Kihika called for a collective mindset shift, urging Kenyans to rally around infrastructure development rather than resist necessary changes. “Let’s focus on maximizing local resource mobilization and exploring innovative partnerships for a prosperous future,” she concluded.
As Nakuru County continues to seek solutions for its infrastructural needs, Governor Kihika’s vision encourages a more positive and collaborative approach to achieving lasting progress.
