“Lugari Diploma Teachers Training College Celebrates 7th Graduation, Confers Diplomas to Final 8-4-4 Cohort”

Lugari Diploma Teachers Training College on Thursday celebrated its 7th graduation ceremony with vibrant festivities, honoring the achievements of the 2023 and 2024 graduating classes. A total of 179 graduates received their diplomas, marking the end of the college’s involvement with Kenya’s 8-4-4 education system, as noted by Chief Principal Ann Esese. She expressed pride in seeing the graduates reach this milestone, entrusting them to carry forward the college’s spirit as educators dedicated to inspiring and uplifting.
The ceremony featured distinguished guests, including the Western Region Director of Education (RDE), Mr. Jared Obiero, and Dr. Jaluo Murunga from the University of Eldoret, representing Lugari MP Hon. Nabii Nabwera. Mr. Obiero commended the college’s achievements, emphasizing the institution’s significance as a premier educational hub in Kakamega County. He assured continued support from the Ministry of Education, highlighting the college’s strong academic performance since 2018.
Hon. Nabwera, through Dr. Murunga, conveyed appreciation for the college’s effective community engagement under the leadership of Chief Principal Esese. The college sources local produce from the community, fostering a beneficial relationship. Furthermore, Lugari Diploma Teachers Training College has been designated as a training center for the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) and is set to become an ICT hub within the constituency.
Dr. Murunga encouraged the graduates to value lifelong learning and adapt to educational reforms like CBC, sharing his own journey from a primary school teacher to a university lecturer. He challenged the new educators to positively impact their students’ lives.
Lugari Subcounty Director of Education Joan Sakwa praised the graduates for their dedication, urging them to represent the college well and promote it within their communities. Mr. James Wanyella, the TSC Director of Lugari Subcounty, commended the college for its excellent discipline record and conducted the first CBC-compliant graduation. He reassured the graduates of support from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and reminded them of the significance of their calling as educators.
Prof. Lydia Wamocha, the Chair of the Board of Management (BOM), expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education for its continuous funding, especially for technological advancements. Prof. Wamocha noted that the 2024 class has achieved remarkable success, making it a standout cohort in the college’s history.
In her closing remarks, Chief Principal Anne Esese thanked the guests, stakeholders, parents, and community members for their ongoing support. She acknowledged the contributions of the Ministry of Education, which has enhanced the college’s infrastructure, including a newly equipped I-HUB. Addressing the graduates, she emphasized the importance of confidence and resilience, encouraging them to find fulfillment in their teaching careers while embodying the college’s values.
