President Ruto Appoints Thuo Mathenge as Chairperson of Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation
President William Ruto has appointed Thuo Mathenge as the new chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO). This appointment, announced in a gazette notice on November 15, 2024, comes with a three-year tenure.
In the official gazette, President Ruto exercised his powers under section 6(1)(a) of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Act of 2013, alongside section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act. The notice formally stated: “I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, do appoint Thuo Mathenge to the chairperson of Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation for a period of 3 years.”
Mathenge will assume his new role immediately, marking a significant step in KALRO’s ongoing efforts to enhance agricultural research and development in Kenya. His leadership is expected to contribute to the organization’s mission of advancing innovative agricultural practices, boosting food security, and promoting sustainable livestock management in the country.
As the new chairperson, Mathenge’s appointment is seen as a key development in the government’s broader agenda to improve agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods through scientific research and innovation.
