Moiben MP Visit to State House: A Commitment to Women’s Rights and Protection of Vulnerable Groups
Moiben MP, Prof. Phylis Bartoo, along with her fellow women parliamentarians, had the distinct honor of being hosted by His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto at State House today for a crucial dialogue on women’s rights and the protection of vulnerable groups. The meeting highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to addressing critical social issues and strengthening measures against gender-based violence.
During the meeting, the President reaffirmed the government’s unwavering stance in tackling gender-based violence (GBV) and promised to hold perpetrators accountable. He emphasized that femicide, the intentional killing of women due to their gender, will not be tolerated in Kenya. This clear message echoed the nation’s determination to create a society where women and girls can live free from violence and fear.
As an advocate for gender equality and children’s rights, Prof. Bartoo underscored the significance of proactive parental involvement in shielding children from the growing dangers of social media. In particular, she highlighted the increasing threats posed by cyberbullying, exploitation, and the spread of harmful content on various online platforms. She called for a collaborative effort between families, communities, and the government to ensure that children are safeguarded from these risks.
“We must work hand in hand to build a society that not only protects women but also guarantees the safety of our children in an ever-evolving digital world,” Prof. Bartoo said.
