COUNTY ACHIEVES ITS TARGET IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ROADS PROJECTS IN 2020/2021 FINANCIAL YEAR
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has realized a major achievement following the successful completion of over 1,880.52 km of roads projects that had been earmarked for implementation in the financial year 2020/2021.
This, even as inspectors, engineers and surveyors from the Department of Roads, Transport, Energy and Public Works continue monitoring and evaluating the ongoing infrastructure projects to ensure the 30 percent of the work remaining is finished before embarking on new projects in the new financial year 2020/2022.
The target for the previous financial year 2019/2020 was 2,156km. The section of roads has managed to complete the installation of 221.7m of culverts and constructed 32 bodaboda shades across the county.
“The work included grading, gravelling, dozing, installation of culverts, construction of bridges and box culverts in all the six Sub Counties. The team from my section will continue with the inspection work to ensure the contractors do quality work,” said roads Director Eng. Benjamin Kirongo.
Today, the director of roads who is also the resident’s engineer led a team from the section and those from the procurement department in the inspection of various roads projects that have been completed and ready for use in Turbo Sub County.
The joint team inspected Corneli-Kapkanga -Kapchinja and Kapkanga-Chepkaitich roads that have been completed in Kamagut Ward. The area residents expressed satisfaction with the work done by the contractor.
Speaking during the inspection tour, Director Kirongo expressed optimism that the remaining 30percent of ongoing work across the county will be completed in the remaining three months as they continue with plans to open new roads for connectivity in the new financial year.
The team also toured the ongoing drainage site in Maili Nne estate.
The residents of the estate where the project is ongoing said they have been having a serious challenge of running water with cases of destruction of property and loss of life being common occurrences during heavy downpours. They thanked the county government for the projects saying that it will solve their perennial flood rains challenges.
Those in the tour of the ongoing projects included engineer Kenneth Cherono and senior procurement officer Benedicto Kanda.
