AWWDA Chairperson Inspects Final Testing of Kigoro to Gigiri Bulk Water Pipeline
Charles Karondo, Chairperson of the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA), today led the Board of Directors in inspecting the final stages of testing and flushing for the Kigoro to Gigiri Bulk Water Pipeline. This critical infrastructure is part of the Northern Collector Tunnel Bulk Water System, aimed at improving water supply to the Nairobi Metropolitan area.
The inspection included a tour of the Northern Collector Tunnel Bulk Water System and a briefing on the pipeline’s testing and flushing processes, which are nearing completion. The 55-kilometer pipeline, once operational, is set to deliver an additional 140 million liters of clean water daily to Nairobi, addressing the city’s ongoing water scarcity issues.
Chairperson Karondo praised the project’s advancement, highlighting its role in revolutionizing water distribution across Nairobi and its neighboring regions. He stressed the project’s importance not only for the capital but also for enhancing water access in Gatanga, Murang’a County, where the pipeline will supply an additional 7 million liters of water per day.
The Northern Collector Tunnel Bulk Water System, which includes the Kigoro Water Treatment Plant and associated transmission pipelines, represents a significant step forward in equitable water access and infrastructure development for the region.
