Boost for Bungoma as Aga Khan donates medical equipment
Bungoma and Webuye County Referral Hospitals received a major boost after the Aga Khan Hospital donated medical equipment and ICT/Health support items to boost healthcare services.
Among the medical equipment donated included 6 Microscopes, 4 Lab refrigerators, 4 Autoclaves and 2 biosafety cabinets.
The function held at Aga Khan primary school in Kisumu on Tuesday was attended by Bungoma County health acting Chief Officer Isaac Ariput and Bungoma County Referral Hospital medical Supretendent Dr. David Wanikina.
Aruput lauded Aga Khan Health Services for donating medical equipment to the two largest medical facilities in Bungoma County.
“Through these partnerships, our major health facilities have benefited a lot and we look forward to continued working relationships, ” he said.
Aga Khan Hospital project manager Kennedy Mulama said the program’s overall objective is to improve and strengthen systematic gender-sensitive response to overcome health, economic and social vulnerabilities caused by COVID-19 pandemic in Western Kenya.
“The initiative, which is a part of the AKDN’s global strategy is funded by the European Union and the Aga Khan foundation UK in bid to boost the aiming health sector that was done a blow by covid 19 ” said Mulama.
He added, “The multi-sector programme, currently in its second year of implementation, aims to strengthen existing health responses, increase awareness of prevention strategies and support mechanisms while minimizing the social -economic impact of the crisis among vulnerable populations in the region,”.
Jane Wanyama CEO Aga Khan hospital Kisumu stated that with the donations of equipment, it will improve in offering quality health care in the region.
The nine health facilities which benefited from the medical equipment and Health/CME include Kisumu County Referral Hospital, Busia County Referral Hospital, Nambale Sub-County Hospital, Bungoma County Referral Hospital and Webuye County hospital.
Others are Migori County Referral Hospital, Awendo Sub-County Hospital, Gesusu and Keumbu Sub-County Hospital in Kisii County.
Wanyama stated that Aga Khan Health Services Kenya is supporting the Western counties by providing personal protective equipment (PPE) and establishing a digital online learning platform and health/telemedicine infrastructures.
“We have and still train health workers about COVID-19 response and management. The training has also been conducted to equip health workers on advanced skills and knowledge for critical care of patients,” she said
