Borotet Union Keen on Setting Up Maize Milling Plant Ahead of Harvesting Season
County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Martha Cheruto on Tuesday hosted Borotet leadership in her office where they discussed the modalities of setting up the Union’s maize milling plant which is part of Governor Jonathan Bii’s Nguzo Kumi agenda.
The union is among the other two unions of Moisoy and Marathon which were formed through the calumniation of marketing cooperative societies across the six sub-counties to add value to their products, attract value and realize growth of economies.
Speaking during the meeting, Cheruto called on the union’s leadership to reconsider getting the updated business plan and the feasibility study as well as the Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) before the project’s first phase kicks off.
“We need you to also diversify your products to various value chains such as milk and potatoes for your members to get more money,” said Cheruto.
The CECM further encouraged Primary Cooperative members to be at the forefront of aggregation matters.
Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Chief Officer Ruth Samoei said; “As a department, we are counting on your cooperation to ensure that the process moves on well to see the machine installed to make use of the grains harvesting season.”
Samoei also encouraged farmers who are the union members and key producers of the needed raw materials to own up the union fully for stability and progress.
The union’s chairman, Jacob Businei who was also present during the meeting thanked the County Government for the already initiated mechanisms for the purchase of the milling plant ahead of the harvesting season.
