Bungoma County Braces for Competitive Senatorial Race
Bungoma County is gearing up for a highly contested senatorial race as Agneta Mwangale, a 22-year-old fourth-year student at Moi University, has officially declared her candidacy. Mwangale, also a prominent student leader, aims to challenge incumbent senator Wafula Wakoli, who was elected in a by-election following the appointment of Moses Wetangula as the Speaker of the National Assembly.
In an exclusive interview with Mulembe News, Mwangale expressed her commitment to transformative leadership. “I believe together we can effect change, and I have the ability to unite people of all ages through various forums to identify and address our challenges,” she stated.
Mwangale emphasizes her dedication to prioritizing women, youth, and individuals with disabilities, noting that these groups have often been marginalized in leadership. “Youth have been left out of leadership and administration, leading to a dormant population that needs to be productive,” she added.
As she embarks on her first political campaign, Mwangale has initiated a distribution of sanitary pads to schools across the county and is conducting free motivational talks, aiming to engage and inspire the community.
The senatorial race will also see Mwangale competing against several notable candidates, including Jacob Machacha, who placed third in the last general election, former Bumula Member of Parliament Mwambu Mabonga, and businessman John Wanyama. As the election approaches, the political landscape in Bungoma County promises to be dynamic and engaging.
