Busia County Council of Elders Elects New Leadership

The Council of Elders in Busia County held elections on Wednesday, bringing together elders from all seven sub-counties.

Mr. Linus Magero is the Chairman-elect after garnering 75 votes, defeating Wycliffe Oprong, who got 64 votes.

Mr. Elsaphat Mangeni is the 2nd Vice Chair after getting 61 votes, beating Frank Omwaru’s 49 votes. Domitila Ogutu secured the Assistant Treasurer role with 72 votes against Christine Murunga’s 53.
Washington Omwodo was elected Secretary General with 73 votes, beating Henry Musungu, who received 53.

Other elected officials are Mr. Philip Boy as Deputy Secretary General (71 votes), Mr. Henry Khalende as Treasurer (75 votes), and Lawrence Musungu as Organizing Secretary (67 votes).
Mr. Hillary Ajuma (1st Vice Chair), Michael Ekombe (2nd Deputy Secretary General), and Martin Owino (Assistant Organizing Secretary) ran unopposed, marking a harmonious election for the Council’s leadership.

Mr. Magero is taking over from Mr. George Wesonga who was nomitted in the County Assembly of Busia.
