Busia Deputy Sepaker Declares Malaba Trailer Park Null and Void
Busia County Assembly Deputy Speaker Hon Ronald Ochalu has declared the Ikapolok Trailer Park in his Malaba Central Ward null and void owing to its location.
Addressing the press while inspecting the opening of new roads in Amagoro, Hon Ochalu said the location of the current trailer part on the right side of the road for trucks entering the Malaba One Stop Border Post is unacceptable.
” As the area MCA, I have said no to previous arrangements to have the construction of the 10-acre facility at the current location. We have proposed the new trailer park opposite the former stalled juice factory site, which lies on a 5-acre piece of land,” he said.
Everest Fresh Ltd had intended to build a juice factory at the farm, which many residents of the area would have benefited from over 1,500 job opportunities; but they chickened out.
The deputy speaker said it would not have been tenable to construct a trailer park on the right side of the road for the incoming trucks as it would create more jam for oncoming trucks and other road users from the Malaba One Stop Border Post.
He added: ” There is urgent need to construct a dual carriageway from Kimaet in Bungoma County to Malaba OSBP and clearing and forwarding agents especially on the Ugandan side who handle the exit long distance trucks to fast ruck the clearance to reduce the never ending pile- ups on the Kenyan side of the border.
Hon Ochalu said the County Government of Busia has secured a private investor to develop the Malaba and Busia trailer parks, which will go a long way in decongesting the two border towns.
The DS assured residents of his ward that his first priority is to have the 20 roads he has opened be murramed to increase accessibility, adding that his other priority is to have the Alleles Dispensary which stalled at foundation stage completed and Administration block at Amagoro Polytechnic pave way for many students to secure requisite skills.
Hon Ochalu thanked the Governor HE Dr Paul Otuoma for appointing a banker Douglas Okiring, as County Executive Committee Member for ICT, Sustainable Development Goals Mainstreaming (UN SDGs) and Economic Revatilization from Amagoro Division following his plea to him that the division had been neglected by his administration.
” We say thank you to the Governor for the move. We still urge him to include more people from the division when he endorses directors and deputy directors after the completion of the interviews,” he said.
