BUSIA GOVERNOR OFFERS FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO MARANDA SCHOOL BOUND ORPHAN
Busia Governor, H.E Sospeter Ojaamong has offered full scholarship to a partial orphan who is due to join one of Kenya’s top learning institutions, Maranda School in Siaya Sub County.
Lameck Wandera Omondi scored 413 marks at Nasira AC Primary School in the recently released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE)
examination to earn a place at the prestigious school for his secondary education.
The Governor who visited the boy’s guardian at their home in Buloma Village, Matayos Sub County said he was informed of the boy’s plight by a ward administrator, thus prompting his intervention.
” With such marvellous performance in the exams and considering his status as an orphan, I had to intervene to enable him complete his secondary education without any hitches,” he said.
The boy thanked the governor for coming to his rescue assuring the County Chief of his resolve to pursue his education with a burning ambition of becoming a neurosurgeon.
” I am still in shock to see the Governor visit our home because of me. This was a pleasant surprise which will go into the annals of history,” Omondi said.
He added:” Hardwork pays. I burnt midnight oil in my studies and it paid off dividends. With the Governor’s full scholarship up to form four, I will strive to go full throttle in my studies to realize my future endeavours.”
Omondi who was index two scored straights As in Maths with 85 percent, English 86%, Kiswahili 84%, Social Studies 83% and Science 75% A (Minus).
Many pupils regard maths as a bottleneck in their careers, but Omondi disputed that narrative saying that it’s the easiest subject to master, attributing the false notion to peer influence and fear of unknown.
” My maths teacher, Mr Richard Opuko motivated me by lending me his book titled KCPE Mirror Mathematics. Together with Targeter which I had at home, I made sure of scoring a straight A,” he said, urging the youth to embrace constant practice and hard work in their studies to realize their cherished goals.
Omondi’s mother, Roseline Atieno Wandera thanked the Governor for offering her son full scholarship, noting that she had lost hope of her son joining secondary school owing to financial constraints.
” I am very happy for this kind gestture. I didn’t know that a person of the Governor’s stature can sacrifice his time to visit my home and more so to offer full scholasrship to my son against all odds,” the widow said.
