Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano Leads Ministry’s Efforts in Flood Relief Efforts
Hon. Rebecca Miano, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Investments, Trade & Industry, spearheaded a compassionate initiative to alleviate the suffering of flood victims in Westlands Constituency.
In a heartfelt address during the handover ceremony of donations to flood victims, Hon. Miano extended her deepest sympathies to those affected by the recent heavy rains, attributing the calamity to the impacts of climate change disrupting weather patterns. She commended the resilience and cooperation displayed by the affected residents during this trying period.
Under the leadership of President William Ruto, the government has formulated a comprehensive mobilization plan, emphasizing the evacuation of affected individuals and the provision of essential support to mitigate the tragedy’s repercussions. Hon. Miano reaffirmed her ministry’s commitment to providing necessary assistance, rallying her team to stand in solidarity with the affected communities.
A consortium of representatives from various entities under the Ministry, including ACA, EAPC, EPZA, and others, joined Hon. Miano in donating a substantial quantity of essential items. These included blankets, mattresses, assorted foodstuffs, toiletries, and drinking water, totaling 11,813 packs. The donations were handed over to local authorities for distribution to those most in need, ensuring equitable assistance reaches all affected households.
Hon. Miano also issued a heartfelt appeal to private sector entities and community members to contribute towards the relief efforts, emphasizing the significance of collective support in alleviating the distress of fellow Kenyans. She underscored the ethos of ‘Kutoa ni moyo’ (giving is from the heart), urging individuals to extend a helping hand, regardless of the magnitude of their contribution.
The initiative exemplified a collaborative approach between government bodies, civil society, and the private sector in addressing the humanitarian crisis caused by the floods. Hon. Miano’s leadership and the collective efforts of all involved reflected a unified commitment to standing in solidarity with the affected communities and fostering resilience in the face of adversity.
