A group of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Uasin Gishu has asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to provide information on the status of investigations that have been ongoing in regards to claims that some politicians in the County were training a militia.

The CSOs led by their chairman Phillip Barno say delays by the police to inform members of the public in regards to the matter was raising unnecessary tension among locals.

“As Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) we want the DCI to tell us with immediate effect the results of the investigations they did on the claims that governor Jackson Mandago was training militia ahead of the August polls. We want to know what happened and the people involved,” said Barno while speaking to the press.

Barno, in a media briefing in Eldoret town, said investigations into the matter should be concluded as soon as possible.

“Relevant authorities handle this matter should conclude investigations with immediate effect for us to know what transpired to avoid speculations which are being peddled around,” he said.

On his part, Human Rights Activist Kimutai Kirui says the longer the police take in investigating the matter, the more anxiety they create among the locals ahead of the general elections.

“The investigations should be completed with immediate effect.DCI should tell, us whether there was militia or not if it’s true the culprits should be arrested and brought to book as we are heading to the August polls.

“And f there was no such a thing those spreading the lies should be arrested and charged. This is an issue that must be handled seriously.

Governor Jackson Mandago is among politicians summoned by DCI over the militia Training claim which he dismissed.
