Clergy Urges President Uhuru and his Deputy to avoid Throwing Words at Each Other
Members of clergy from Uasin Gishu County have called on President Uhuru Kenyatta, the deputy president William Ruto and Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga to ensure safety and peaceful serene in the country in the forthcoming elections.
The clergy raised concern that hate speech will increase political temperatures in the County and might lead to war.
Led by the chairperson of National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) North Rift, Rev.Daniel Barno said politicians should instead preach before and during the August polls.
“As the clergy we are praying for every candidate to win in the coming elections but what we want is for them to preach peace since we don’t have any spare country .”Said Barno
Reverend Geoffrey Songok of Reformed Church against taking sides in the Auigus polls but instead preach peace.
Lilian Kinuthia woman mediator and conflict mitigation has urged the youths to be vessels of promoting peace rather than being used to cause chaos by the politicians.
“By throwing stones you will either be killed, maimed or injured someone special you may need in the future,”said Kinuthia
Partners from the USAID led by Dr Kimberly Ludwig the director of office of democratic governance peace and security said the Mulika initiative is working to offer civic education in enhancing participation of women and youths in electoral matters.
Ludwig said USAID is strengthening the capacity and collaboration of Independent Electoral Board Commission (IEBC) and the party tribunals in making sure there is free,fair and peaceful elections.
She acknowledged they are looking forward for democratic Kenya through mitigating electoral-related violence before ,during and after elections.
