Coastal Leaders Mourn the Death of Sureya Hersi
Following the sudden passing of Sureya Ali Roble Hersi, a champion for women’s empowerment, a leader, and an advocate for peace and security, leaders from the Coastal region have united in grief to mourn her.
The Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs has remembered Sureya as a visionary leader who aspired to improve governance not only for the people of the Coast but for all Kenyans.
“We will always remember Sureya for her remarkable humility, boundless kindness, warm spirit, unwavering integrity, and extraordinary courage. May the Almighty Allah SWT grant her Jannatul Firdaus,” wrote the CS on his X account.
Kilifi Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro has also joined his fellow leaders in mourning Sureya. Mung’aro conveyed that the people of Kilifi are with the bereaved family, especially Mohammed Hersi, who has lost a wife. He noted that Sureya’s demise is deeply felt by many.
“I am saddened by the news of Sureya Hersi’s passing, a political ally from Kilifi known for her warm and friendly nature that brought decency to our politics. She once served as the National Vice Chair of Maendeleo Ya Wanawake, and her loss is deeply felt in the Coast region,” said the Kilifi Governor.
Other leaders who sent their condolences include Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali, East African legislator Suleiman Shaban, former Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, among others from the region. Sureya will be laid to rest today according to Muslim traditions.
