The Council of Governors has urged the National Treasury to fast track disbursement of outstanding balance of Kshs.42.2 billion equitable share to counties.

In a statement, the CoG chairman Martin Wambora said the outstanding balance includes 12.68b owed to 18 counties for the month of November, 2021 and 29.6b owed to 47 counties for the month of December, 2021.

However, the CoG acknowledged that the National Treasury has made tremendous effort to disburse equitable share of revenue allocation to counties in time.

” Indeed, in this financial year we have witnessed an improvement on timely releases to counties as compared to previous financial years. This has in turn improved budget absorption and enhanced continuity of service delivery to citizens,” H.E Wambora said.

He added: “As at today, the National Treasury has disbursed a total of Kshs.140b which is 38 per cent of the total equitable share allocation to counties.”
