COMPLETION OF ALUPE MOTHER AND CHILD HOSPITAL ON COURSE
The County Government of Busia is determined to ensure that the 100-bed Mother and Child Specialist Health facility at Alupe Hospital in Teso South Sub County is completed, Chief Officer Department of Health and Sanitation Jonathan Ino has said.
Speaking during site inspection, Ino who was accompanied by Officers from the Department of Health and Infrastructure and Energy led by Eng Johnkevin Otwani revealed that the project is 65 per cent complete.
He encouraged the contractor, Road Network Limited to speed up the construction of the facility for it to serve the intended objective, adding that it will be a one stop shop that will ensure locals get services with ease.
“We look forward to ensuring that the project is finished so that the value for money is felt by the residents,” said the Chief Officer.
The sentiments were echoed by Eng Otwani, who stressed the need for the contractor to ensure that he conforms to the standards by carrying out his work professionally.
The facility which is part of Governor Sospeter Ojaamong’s agenda of transforming the health sector will comprise of theatre, X-ray, maternity wards, pharmacy units, nutrition and immunization centres, laboratory, antenatal clinics and infant nurseries.
It will serve an estimated 220,000 clients annually, enhance reproductive health services for women and offer family planning services as well as reduce maternal and child mortality rates.
It will also serve as a regional training institution that will provide skills for both upcoming health practitioners and those already in service.
