County and Consultants Discuss on Designs of Eastern Bypass
County Government Uasin Gishu’s top officials held an engagement with a consultant tasked by Kenya National Highways Authority to design the Eldoret Eastern Bypass project.
The meeting chaired by Roads, Transport and Public Works CECM Eng. Joseph Lagat, at the County headquarters in Eldoret, was attended by County Secretary Edwin Bett, CECMs Edward Sawe(Agriculture), Dr. Janeth Kosgei(Lands), Chief Of Staff Nicholas Chepkwony and Municipal Manager Tito Koiyet among others.
During the engagement which sought to capture more details in the design before it completion in March, the County team pushed to have all the activities responsive to the needs of the residents of Uasin Gishu and more particular farmers to be taken into account because these are the people who make Eldoret town vibrant.
The top officials emphasised the importance of the project being implemented and completed in a way that ensures farmers can deliver their goods and access Eldoret city without any hindrance.
They said the Eldoret Eastern Bypass should not be detrimental to the well-being of residents.
They noted the need for more consultations with local leaders and public participation with residents to have a detailed design.
Other key areas of focus included issues surrounding Eldoret City, movement of farmers and animals, environmental issues, social amenities that exist, general social infrastructure projects like markets, schools hospitals, and other projects that will have a positive impact on the lives of residents.
The consultant, CGP Consulting Engineer Company, was also requested to consider recommendations of a report by the County Government about improving of missing link roads identified in the six sub-counties.
Last month, Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, EGH, chaired a meeting with county leaders which sought to bring a collaboration between the national government agencies and the county leaders on the design of the Eldoret Eastern bypass project.
Member of County Assembly for Kaptagat Ward, Hon. Jonathan Ng’etich, represented the County legislature while CGP Consulting Engineer was represented by Eng. Maina Githinji and Eng. William Muli represented KenHA.
