The County Government of Trans Nzoia and Kibabii University have pledged to collaborate on preserving the legacy of renowned Kenyan author, Ken Walibora.

The partnership was announced during a consultative meeting held in Kitale on Tuesday.

Professor Ernest Mohochi, Director of the Centre for Languages and Cultural Studies (CLACS) at Kibabii University, emphasized the importance of honoring Walibora, a native of Trans Nzoia County.

He highlighted CLACS’ efforts to establish an annual Ken Walibora public lecture series and a designated resource corner in his memory.

“Kibabii University is committed to preserving Walibora’s legacy and promoting cultural heritage in the region,” Mohochi stated.

“We believe that collaborating with the county government will enable us to achieve these goals more effectively.”

The proposed areas of collaboration include the establishment of a Ken Walibora garden corner, where Walibora’s literary works will be collected and displayed, his life will be documented, and the cultures of Trans Nzoia’s communities will be preserved.

Additionally, the partnership will involve joint research in cultural studies, collaboration on cultural activities, and translation services.

Mr. Stanley Kirui, the County Executive Committee Member for Gender, Sports, Culture, and Tourism, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration.

“We are excited to partner with Kibabii University to honor the memory of Ken Walibora and promote cultural heritage in Trans Nzoia,” he said.
