County Hosts Keproba on Export and Branding Enterprises
County Executive Committee Member for Trade Industrialization Tourism Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Martha Cheruto on Tuesday hosted a delegation from the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency(KEPROBA) who are in the county to undertake an outreach program to assess the capacities of enterprises on matters of export and branding of products.
Speaking during the meeting, the CECM said the intention of the Governor, under the Trade pillar, is to create a platform for the export of products that will ultimately create jobs for youths and utilize the Eldoret International Airport.
“We are keen on such items that will enable enterprises to do better, more so on the aspect of capacity building farmers on the required qualities of seeds, the expected product to the requirements of the outside market and market potential of the products to enable them to benefit even more,” said Cheruto
Ms. Cheruto challenged them to brand the county through athletes, available sports academies including Chagaiya High Altitude Training Camp, sports tourism in general, and agro-tourism among others.
“We are also looking forward to partnering with you to package for us specific products from the upcoming Export Processing Zone (EPZ) once it’s complete” added the CECM
According to KEPROBA’S team leader, Kelvin Nkai (Trade advisory services), the parastatal is working on a program that aims at identifying and profiling enterprises according to their products and possibly challenges they face.
“We will thereafter take them through a questionnaire on the export potential and the gaps for capacity building and products development program to realize their potentialities,” said Nkai.
The delegation later visited the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) to familiarize themselves and check their product’s capacity as well as the challenges.
Directors Kipleting Mengich (Trade) and Dr Silas Leting (Licensing) were among those present.
