County Of Elgeyo Marakwet Partners with KeLCoP
Elgeyo Marakwet County was today among 10 selected counties that have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kenya Livestock Commercialization Project (KeLCoP).
The partner Counties will benefit from Ksh 9.4 Billion to be disbursed in six years the period which the project will be implemented.
The project is funded by the Government of Kenya (GOK) through the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Heifer International, Participating Financial Institutions (PFI), among other partners.
The team from the National Government did a field visit in February identified Soy North, Tambach, Chereng’any/Chebororwa and Sambirir wards as their priority wards for implementing project after holding a number of sensitization meetings with the locals and County staff.
The project is set to be fully rolled out in July, 2022 and will have a strong focus on the inclusion of women, youth, marginalized tribes and persons living with disabilities.
At the end of its implementation, it is expected that it will enhance and strengthen poor rural People’s production capacities.
Speaking during the launch of the program in Naivasha, Harry Kimutai, the Permanent secretary of Livestock reaffirmed the commitment to working in synergy towards the successful implementation of KeLCoP.
KeLCoP’s overall goal is to contribute to the Government’s agricultural transformation agenda of increasing rural small-scale farmer’s incomes, food and nutrition security.
In attendance was the livestock County Executive Member Dr. Joseph Kiyeng, Chief Officer Dr. Benson Kibore and representative staff from livestock department.
