County Strengthens Partnership with AMPATH Uzima to Enhance Healthcare Services
In a bid to improve healthcare delivery, Uasin Gishu County officials convened with AMPATH Uzima on Monday to discuss the continuation of their collaboration, focusing on HIV-related initiatives and capacity building for healthcare personnel. The meeting, led by County Executive Committee Member for Health Services, Dr. Abraham Serem, underscored the significance of this partnership in addressing pressing health challenges.
Dr. Serem emphasized the critical need for expanding revolving fund pharmacies within high-volume healthcare facilities, stating, “The provision of revolving fund pharmacies is vital, and our administration is in dire need to see the expansion of such services. These pharmacies play a crucial role in ensuring that essential medications are accessible to those who need them most.”
Professor Sylvester Kimaiyo, Chief of Party at AMPATH Uzima, stressed the importance of integrating the county’s health activities with those run by AMPATH to optimize resource allocation and service delivery. “A coordinated approach is necessary, allowing for better resource allocation and improved service delivery. In particular, our data systems should be harmonized to ensure accuracy and accessibility,” he remarked.
The discussion also addressed recent budget cuts affecting health services. Professor Kimaiyo assured Dr. Serem that AMPATH Uzima would continue to support two primary care networks in the county despite these financial challenges. “Following the budget cuts, we will fully support two primary care networks in Uasin Gishu because our goal is to ensure that quality healthcare services continue to reach those who are most vulnerable,” he stated.
Chief Officers Dr. Joyce Sang (Clinical Services) and Dr. Paul Wangwe (Promotive and Preventive Health) echoed the sentiment, highlighting that partnerships like the one with AMPATH Uzima are crucial as the county navigates the complexities of healthcare provision amid budgetary constraints.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing health services in Uasin Gishu County, particularly in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other related health issues, ensuring that quality care remains accessible to all residents.
