County to Work With Religious Leaders to Fight Drug and Substance Abuse
The County Government of Uasin Gishu will work together with Religious leaders in abiding to create awareness of drug and substance abuse among the youths.
Speaking during ‘Eid –IL-Asha Celebration where he joined the Muslim Community, Deputy Governor Uasin Gishu County John Barorot said that the County has been facing a challenge in dealing with Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
“I am happy the Imam mentioned the issue of our youth engaging in alcohol and drug abuse, it’s a menace that if not controlled then a generation will be lost” said the Deputy Governor,” he said.
“We have a problem in Kenya and even in our County on alcohol and drug abuse; we have a task force to eliminate drug and Alcohol abuse that harm our youths,” said the Uasin Gishu deputy governor.
“ I want to thank the Imams for their concern about the well-being of our youths and I think the key message that comes from our religious leaders is by addressing the youths and taking responsibility,” he added.
Barorot, further noted that rehabilitation is expensive and that it is better to prevent the youths from Drug Abuse than to use a lot of money to do the rehabilitation
“You know that alcohol and drug can harm our youths and it is difficult to reverse and it is expensive to rehabilitate someone who has been addicted to it,” he added.
He called upon youths to take personal responsibility and that the government has plans for the youth and that the future depends on them.Sheikh Mohammad Hussein said that they will work together her with the County to unite the youths and also they create awareness.
“For sure the issue of Alcohol and Drug Abuse is affecting everyone, mostly Youths engaged in drugs and we as Muslims leaders have taken the task to create awareness,” he said.
Kasim Swaleh, a Muslim youth leader urged the youths to keep away Drugs , since it is not good for their health and it is expensive to rehabilitate such cases and the youths to take action in Making the environment clean and Conducive.
“In addition, we need to do something about the issue and we know that rehabilitation is expensive,” he said.
