Cabinet secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts Ababu Namwamba was questioned by the senate to give the progress of his ministry and measures put in place to ensure nurturing of talents.
The Cabinet Secretary provided an update on the ongoing construction of the Marsabit stadium, indicating that arrangements are in place for its completion and opening. This development is encouraging news for sportsperson in the Marsabit region, as it will provide a dedicated venue for local and regional sporting events.
Namwamba also announced that Kenya will be hosting the CECAFA U-18 Boys’ Championship in November. This regional football tournament will bring together young talents from various East and Central African countries, showcasing their skills and fostering camaraderie among neighboring nations.
Due to the closure of other stadiums for AFCON preparations, Cabinet Secretary Namwamba assured the Senate that the Kirigiti stadium will remain operational. This decision ensures that aspiring athletes and sports enthusiasts will continue to have access to a valuable training and competition facility.
