CS Njeru Wants More Investors in Delivering Affordable Housing
Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development CS Zachariah Njeru urged more investors to partner with the Government in delivering the Affordable Housing Programme agenda.
The CS spoke when he witnessed the signing of the contract for the construction of the Shauri Moyo B Affordable Housing Project with Hajar Services and Primeway Homes Limited. The construction of project will cost more than Sh18 billion.
The CS said the Affordable Housing Programme is progressing well and was at the center of the development agenda for the Kenya Kwanza Government.
The CS said President William Ruto has launched 10 affordable housing projects so far while many more are on the pipeline.
He said besides the 10 that were launched since President Ruto came into office, there are an additional five that were started by the previous administration which are being implemented.
The CS revealed that the Ministry has advertised massive opportunities for partnership in the AHP.
“Starting last week we have been advertising bids for construction of affordable homes in constituencies as well as the wider AHP programme” said the CS.
Housing and Urban Development PS Charles Hinga, who signed the contract for the ministry, said the AHP programme is expanding and will also benefit the police and students.
He said the projects that were advertised last week in included one for the General Service Unit and others for the police. He said the AHP will also be used to provide decent houses for students at tertiary institutions.
