Tree growing in retaliation to climate change negative effects is a continuous process as the country targets 30% tree cover by the year 2032.

On Thursday 22nd June 2023, Dedan Kimathi Foundation donated and partnered with the Young Theologians Initiative for Climate Action based in Limuru to plant 1000 trees in a select number of schools.

St. Paul’s, Ngecha and Umoja primary schools all in Limuru Sub County benefited with the seedlings donation, voluntary tree planting, climate change effects and mitigation sensitization in addition to plastic waste management education aimed at reducing the chocking Pollution from their production and disposal. Some trees were also planted at Manjiri Chief’s camp

Young Theologians Initiative for Climate Action team urged the beneficiaries to keep growing trees to honor and maintain the beauty of God’s creation. Their call was emphasized by the immediate former president of the Rotaract club of St. Paul’s University Kenneth Matiba who challenged the pupils to plant own trees at home and take care of them.

Dedan Kimathi Foundation continues to call for concerted efforts of individuals, government agencies and private organization towards sustainable tree growing to mitigate the already evident negative effects of climate change.

”Together, we can achieve and surpass the set 30% tree cover target if we all put our hands to work. It is important we teach our pupils how to grow trees so that they contribute to the fight against climate change.” stated the DKF team leader Francis Karasinga.
