Mombasa County—Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua visited the Miritini Tea Warehouse in Jomvu Sub-County today to address pressing issues within the tea sub-sector. Accompanied by KTDA directors, Gachagua engaged in extensive discussions regarding the management of public assets, specifically focusing on tea production and the welfare of tea farmers.

During the visit, Gachagua highlighted the need for ongoing dialogue to tackle the sector’s challenges. He assured stakeholders of his Office’s support in implementing necessary reforms within the tea industry, as mandated by President William Ruto.

A key agenda of the visit was to address concerns about tea stocks from the 2023/2024 financial year held in the warehouse. Gachagua’s mission was to evaluate these concerns firsthand. He expressed satisfaction with the commitment made by warehouse management, stating that the remaining tea stocks would be cleared by the end of the year, meeting the expectations of local farmers.

Gachagua called on Chai Trading and KTDA Holdings to expedite the clearance of these stocks, emphasizing the importance of readiness as more tea arrives in the future. This step is part of broader efforts to streamline operations and support the agricultural sector’s growth.
