Deputy President to Flag Off Food Donation in Uasin Gishu

Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua next Tuesday will officially Flag off food donations to the areas affected by famine.

According to Governor Jonathan Bii, the exercise will take place at the Uasin Gishu County headquarters.
“Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will next week flag off food stuff worth Sh 10 million to the drought-affected areas at our County headquarters.

The County has collected foodstuff worth ten million shillings from donors.

“A few days ago we made an appeal to the residents and the business community from Uasin Gishu to give us foodstuffs; the land full of blessings the land that we get rain and the Lord has enough foodstuffs so that we can bless them to the rest of counties that are stuffing. So far we collected foodstuff worth 10 million shillings.” Said Uasin Gishu governor.

The number of Kenyans facing hunger is projected to reach 4.4 million between October and December 2022.

This is according to a UN report for October 2022 to January 2023 which indicated that 1.2 million people will be in the emergency phase and will need urgent support.

The latest IPC report (July to September 2022) on the drought situation in Kenya indicates that; in the ten ASAL counties, where AHN members work, more than 40% of the population is facing high levels of food insecurity compared to 24% in all ASAL counties of Kenya and this figure is projected to increase to 47.5% in the period October to December 2022 and will continue to worsen over time.
