Design Works For the State-Of-The-Art Eldoret Champions’ Market Complete
Uasin Gishu County Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works has completed the design for the ultra-modern market for Eldoret town whose construction is expected to commence soon.
The market will serve more than 20,000 people including suppliers and customers and besides, and accommodate six thousand traders.
Speaking on Thursday during an inspection of the ongoing improvement of access roads around The Champions’ Retail market and main bus park area.
“We are expanding and improving the condition of these roads to decongest traffic fakir into and around the market upon completion. Controlling stormwater along these roads has been a big challenge in the past”, CECM Engineer Joseph Lagat said.
The CECM in charge of Roads added that the place is now free of habitation by criminal gangs.
Other works done over the last six months include the installation of 600mm diameter -22 metres culverts,900mm diameter -43 metres culverts, retaining wall -60 metres, drain improvement (stonework)-40 metres and graveling -200 metres. Upon completion of the works, the road network will also improve connectivity to Eldoret’s main bus terminal and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, Engineer Lagat said the county government has also completed over 600 kilometers of roads under a grading program launched by Governor Bii in rural areas in addition to 100km of graveling works and installation of culverts.
The traders led by Robert Kimani and Sammy Ndung’u thanked the county government for the initiative to improve roads in the area saying the storm waters will now be flowing seamlessly as they expressed confidence that the new market will be completed on time without further delay
