DP Kindiki Marks Taxpayers Day with President Ruto
In his first official assignment following his swearing-in, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki joined President William Ruto at State House to commemorate Taxpayers Day 2024. The event also featured the official launch of the 9th Corporate Plan and the new Application Programming Interface (API) Platform, aimed at enhancing revenue collection efficiency in the country.
During the event, Deputy President Kindiki emphasized the crucial role of taxation in national development. “Every Kenyan has a duty to pay taxes for the development and well-being of our nation. We will build our country from the resources generated through revenue collected from individuals and corporate entities,” he stated.
He highlighted the importance of continuous innovation and the adoption of client-friendly revenue mobilization measures. “It is essential that we ensure prudent management of the resources collected from taxpayers, as this fosters trust and accountability in our systems,” Kindiki added.
The Deputy President commended the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for its impressive performance in the 2023/2024 financial year, having registered 1.2 million new taxpayers and achieving 8 million tax returns—surpassing its targets by 26%. “This achievement is a testament to KRA’s commitment to expanding the tax base and improving compliance among Kenyans,” he noted.
As the government strives to enhance public services through improved revenue collection, Kindiki’s participation in this event marks a proactive start to his tenure as Deputy President. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to creating an environment that encourages responsible tax compliance and fosters economic growth.
The Deputy President concluded by urging all Kenyans to recognize the importance of their contributions through taxes in building a prosperous and sustainable future for the nation.
