DP Rigathi Gachagua Extends Condolences Following Tragic Hillside Enderesha Academy Fire
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed profound condolences to the families and friends affected by the devastating fire at Hillside Enderesha Academy in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 17 pupils, with the victims reportedly burned beyond recognition, according to police reports.
In a statement issued through his X account, Gachagua conveyed his disbelief and sorrow, and extended prayers for a swift recovery for the survivors. “We join the families, the school, and the rest of the country in mourning these young departed souls. We pray for a quick recovery of the survivors of this inferno,” Gachagua said.
The fire, which also resulted in 14 additional pupils being rushed to the hospital, has underscored serious concerns regarding school fire safety. Police spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed the details of the incident.
In light of the tragedy, Gachagua has called on educational institutions to adhere strictly to safety and security measures as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies. “We ask schools to enforce safety and security measures as outlined by the Ministry of Education and other agencies to avert such incidents,” Gachagua emphasized.
