Slain LGBTQ rights activist Edwin Kiprotich Kiptoo well known as Edwin Chiloba

The family’s spokesperson Caudentia Tanui expressed optimism that the perpetrators will be brought to book now that the government has taken firm action into probing the matter.

The family of murdered fashion designer and LGBTQ rights activist Edwin Kiprotich Kiptoo well known as Edwin Chiloba is demanding justice to find the persons responsible for the death of their loved one.

Chiloba’s body was discovered stuffed in a metallic box in Kipkenyo, Eldoret, on Wednesday, January, 4, as eyewitnesses reported seeing unknown assailants drop off the metallic box by the roadside before speeding off.

Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital on Monday, the family’s spokesperson Caudentia Tanui expressed optimism that the perpetrators will be brought to book now that the government has taken firm action into probing the matter.

“We thank God that so far the government is following up on the matter. We have left him at the mortuary with so much pain but indeed we are seeing the government is willing to help us. I am sure there is light and Edwin will get justice,” she said.

Tanui further intimated that the deceased had his upbringing anchored into Christianity and was even at some point called “pastor” in his high school.

She dismissed “these other things we are hearing online” about their loved one saying that they were not privy to such.

“As a family, we know our child came to university, he was in his fourth year. These other things we are seeing on social media we don’t know. He was brought up as a Christian. At St. Francis Kimuron he was called ‘pastor’ and he was a student leader in charge of YCS so these other things we are hearing we do not know we are just seeing it online,” noted Tanui.

“We ask Kenyans to be fair to us because nobody would want their child to be that way. We just want justice and let him rest in peace.”

Meanwhile, five suspects, three being minors, were arraigned at the Eldoret Law Courts on Monday where the prosecution requested they be detained for 21 more days to pave the way for investigations.

Police officers in Eldoret arrested the three on Sunday while Jackton Odhiambo, who is said to be Chiloba’s boyfriend, was arrested on Friday. Odhiambo is being treated as the main suspect.

The case is set to be heard on January 31, 2023.
