Elderly Landowners Attacked on the Eve of Mashujaa Celebrations
A group of elderly landowners was attacked by armed goons on eve of Mashujaa Day Celebrations over disputed land in
Kipkenyo Ward, Uasin Gishu County.
During the attack two people, we badly injured and rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital with injuries.
The group based in Timboroa expressed displeasure over the disputed Nyakinyua Wareng Kenya Company land they bought in 1972 but claim that they were forced to evacuate during the 2007/08 postelection
violence.
Speaking to the press, Richard Kipkoskei Barno, one of the victims said that grabbers are connected to the current Ward leadership and have forcefully taken their land for sub-division and selling.
“Nyakinyua Wareng is our land bought by our parents in 1972. We have presented to the president for issuance of title deeds to have our land. Ironically, elected people are busy exploiting the delayed title
deeds issuance.” argued Barno.
He further added that the attacks were targeted and connected to the grabbers who have already started offering the land to new and unsuspecting buyers.
“We came as a group to celebrate Mashujaa Day by inspecting our land only to be attacked by armed goons. They had slashers, pangas, and spears resulting in 2 of us being hospitalized in the Eldoret Referral
Hospital.”
The residents however hold good faith in President William Ruto that the issuance of title deeds will be
hastened and justice served over their land and the culprits to face the law once and for all.
