Eldoret : ASK Partners With Red Cross and Media to Plant 2,000 Trees

The Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) has taken a proactive step towards environmental conservation by partnering with the Red Cross and the Uasin Gishu Journalist Association , to plant over 2,000 trees.

According to ASK’s Vice Chair, Silas Maiyo this initiative is a significant contribution to the government’s ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees in 10 years, aiming to achieve a 10% forest cover and mitigate the effects of climate change.

“I want to applaud the media and Red Cross in this endeavor, we are happy tha they will be counted in the environment conservation. ASK is commited to ensuring the survival of the planted trees by assigning dedicated personnel to monitor and nurture them,” he said.
The Red Cross, a globally recognized organization dedicated to humanitarian aid, has demonstrated its commitment to environmental protection through its active involvement in tree planting activities.

Teddy Owino, from the Red Cross Kenya chapter in Uasin Gishu, shared that their team has planted approximately 500 trees in various locations throughout the county, contributing to the government’s target of planting 100 million trees on a designated day.
Uasin Gishu Journalist Association Chairman James Gitaka said this collaborative effort between ASK, the Red Cross, and the media sets a positive example of how organizations can work together to address critical environmental issues.

“By joining forces, they can amplify their impact and make a substantial difference in achieving sustainable development goals,” he said .

He noted that tree planting initiative is not merely a symbolic gesture; it represents a concrete step towards preserving Kenya’s natural heritage and safeguarding the environment for future generations.

“The success of this initiative hinges on ongoing monitoring and care for the planted trees. ASK’s commitment to providing dedicated personnel for tree conservation is a crucial step towards ensuring the long-term viability of the planted seedlings. Regular watering, weeding, and pest control are essential to ensure that these trees thrive and contribute to the restoration of Kenya’s forests,” he added.

The ASK-Red Cross-media partnership in Eldoret represents a commendable effort to address environmental concerns and promote sustainable development.
