Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Bishop Dominic Kimengich Calls For free and Fair Elections
Religious leaders from Uasin Gishu County are now calling for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and the relevant authorities to ensure that they conduct credible elections.
Speaking in Eldoret during the signing of agreement between the political candidates and the various public and stakeholders from Uasin Gishu County to ensure that they will be agents of peace Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Bishop Dominic Kimengich said election has never been a problem but when there is smell of interference or rigging is when there is violence.
He lamented that peace must start from the grass root towards the urban areas that there will not be peace at the county level and also at national level if the grass root have no peace.
“Election has never been a problem in Kenya people vote peaceful but after voting when we get the perception that there was no level ground or irregularities that when chaos erupt. I am appealing to the government, civil servants and all the election actors to ensure that we have free and fair election and we don’t have interference so that our people will be contented with the process and results of the election.”Bishop Kimengich said.
The Eldoret Diocese Bishop also urged the government and the relevant authorities concerned with the economy of the country to step up and solve the issue of inflation and the high cost of living in the country.
He noted that the government should reduce and do away with other taxes and subsiding other sectors that will ensure there is supply of food in the country .
“Our people are suffering, our economy is really bad now and the common Kenya cant feed their children, the cant pay school fees and even bus fair to other places to such and it’s the responsibility of government through the powers vested in it to ensure that the cost of living be affordable to every Kenyan.”Bishop Kimengich added.
