Traders who were in the famous closed Champions Market will soon benefit from the construction of the new ultra-modern Eldoret market after a delegation of Land’s CS, PS and planners arrived at the scene to kick start the construction process.

“ I want to thank president William Ruto for keeping his promise of building a new ultra-modern market here in Eldoret town Uasin Gishu County. Today he sent a delegation consisting of the lands Cs, Ps, and all relevant authorities. I am convinced that this construction will take place and we congratulate the president for sticking to his word.” Francis Muya Mwangi, MCA Langas Ward, and the leader of Minority.

Highlighting the plea and challenges faced by the retailers and persons operating around the market, Muya echoed the need to find a solution and if need be, compensate the affected individuals for the losses they suffered during the commotion witnessed.

“There are some questions that the County of Uasin Gishu needs to answer on this issue of the market. People lost their properties and other valuables for they were evicted without notice. So they need justice for it was inhumane how they were treated. We as a county were wrong because farmers are hurting, sellers have nowhere to go, there is not enough security and we deserve to compensate the affected.” added Muya.

The emphasis is placed on the initial owners of shops in the markets, and calls have been made for them to be given the first priority when allocating the stalls because they were the initial owners before being evicted.

“I would like to call on the county government to come up with a list of the initial stall owners before the closing of the market, to be given first priority when allocating stalls after the completion of the new market because it would not be fair if they miss on the spaces that they initially qualified for and were evicted without proper considerations and regards.” Noted wakili Kimani Wanjohi, MCA Huruma ward.
