Eldoret: Irresponsible Driving Major Causes of Accidents
A section of Uasin Gishu residents has blamed irresponsible driving and unroady-worthy vehicles over the endless road accidents being witnessed the in the country.
According to Fredrick, a driver plying the Munyaka route from Eldoret town, the presence of unroadworthy vehicles in the transport sector is a major cause of these accidents.
“These old vehicles are a nuisance in this industry since they are too slow and most of them end up breaking down unexpectedly and in turn causing accidents,” stated Fredrick.
Fredrick added that the maintenance of the required distance between the vehicles and the flooding of the vehicles also poses a factor contributing to these accidents.
Sentiments from Fredrick were echoed by a bodaboda operator in Eldoret town who has stated that ignorance of the traffic laws is the main cause of these accidents.
“Most people accuse us bodaboda of being reckless and causing the accidents but in reality, breaking traffic laws and carelessness is the cause of these accidents,” said the motorist.
They called upon the government to eliminate unroadworthy vehicles as well as educate motorists on road safety in an attempt to curb accidents.
The outcry from these operators has been triggered by the tragic accidents in Londiani and Kaburengu which have led to the devastating loss of 71 lives.
