Eldoret: Muslim Clerics Decry Small Number of Children Attending Madrasas

Muslim clerics and Madrass teachers have decried the small number of children attending the classes.
Led by the Kenya National Fatwa Council National Deputy Director, Sheikh Abubakar Bini they said the move is caused by the government’s move of putting their children in school from 6 in the morning to 6 in the evening.

“As Muslim clerics and madrasa teachers, we are not happy since the government only gives us little time for our children to learn Madrasa. We are urging them to at least twist their time to avoid inconveniencing our children,” he said.

He noted that the schools usually close in late October and the children have only two months for the madrassa sessions.

“It’s also disheartening that Madrasa teachers also break for Christmas holidays yet Muslims don’t celebrate it.
They should use the time when schools are closed to take children to madrasas and we should not follow the school calendar that when schools are closed Madrasas also closes,” said Bini
