Eldoret Resident’s Expectations For the New Budget
Eldoret residents are eagerly waiting for the proposed 2023 budget.
The Cabinet Secretary for Treasury and National Planning, Prof. Njuguna Ndungu will address the parliament in the afternoon.
“We are expecting the Cabinet Secretary to rescue us from this high cost of living so that we can be able to get goods available from our shops,” Enock an Eldoret resident.
The estimated budget for this financial year 2023/2024 is Sh3. 6 trillion for the Financial Year 2023/2024 with a Sh700 billion deficit to be financed through borrowing.
The budget is an increase of Sh251 billion from the 2022/23 budget which stood at Sh3. 39 trillion.
However, they want the legislature to consider the issue of housing levy, which was later said to be tax.
“Let people who wish to have their house built by the government be taxed rather than all of us who are good with our houses which we live in,” Tony a Civil servant suggested.
However, others want the government to reduce the price of petroleum since it will affect most of them.
“If the government is really for the hustlers it should do something about the price of the commodities since we depend on them daily,” Mutasi a parent.
The government should take care of our funds since they are ready to take our money and we are not seeing any development as far as we are concerned.
Consequently, the locals are demanding an increase in wages as the Economy proves otherwise.
“Members of the county assembly have their salaries increased yesterday and this proves that the government has money and we the middle-class Kenyans for years have not received an increase in our check,” added Mutasi
This is the first budget by the Kenya Kwanza Government and has received a lot of Denial by many Kenyans, especially on the proposed house levy, which was key during the parliamentary debate.
