Eldoret to Get a State of Art Market -President Ruto
Eldoret town will soon get a bigger market, President William Ruto has announced.
Speaking during an Interdenominational Christmas service at the Eldoret Sports Club, President Ruto said the National Government will work with the County Government of Uasin Gishu to set up a multi-storey market to accommodate all traders.
The Head of State was responding to a request by Governor Jonathan Bii to help in building a market that all traders can operate from.
“The issue of the market, we will build a new one, and it will be bigger so that you don’t keep fighting over the space for the smaller one,” President Ruto said.
He also noted that the Lands and Public Works Cabinet Secretary Zachary Mwangi has already been directed to visit the town and plan with the county on how the new market will be build.
“You can’t fight over small market and I’m here,” the Head of State said.
Earlier, Governor Bii had noted that over 4,000 have been fighting over the market, causing regular push and pull between them and the enforcement officers.
He said building a multi-complex market that will also have parking would be the solution to the challenge.
“The market that we have has only 900 stalls. If it pleases you, kindly help us get a market with three or four floors and a parking so that we don’t keep fighting,” the Governor asked the President.
The request has now been accepted and the town is now poised to get a new market.
Local and National leaders attended the function.
Clergies from all denominations were also present.
