Eldoret: What Residents Said About the Financial Bill
With the new law resulting from the 2023 Finance Bill being effective from 1st July, it has received mixed reactions from various bodaboda and matatu operators in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu county.
The bodaboda operators in Eldoret town said the expected fuel prices increment will provoke them to increase their charges on clients so as to cater to their operational expenses and avoid running into losses.
“This will force us to have a slight increase in prices with the addition of at least ksh10 and this will sustain our operations,” stated a bodaboda operator.
Matatu operators and stakeholders said by increasing fares they will cope with the maintenance of customer servicing.
“We will automatically increase the fare charged to our customers because we can’t run losses-based business but it will be a slight increase which will not scare away customers,” said the matatu stakeholder.
Despite the speculations of the oncoming fuel increment, the transport sector in Eldoret town has asserted that they hope for a luminous future upon the current government implementing this finance bill.
These mixed reactions from the bodaboda and the matatu operators in this town have been triggered by the oncoming implementation of the new law through which the fuel prices are expected to rise with 8% from the current price.
