Eldoret:County Enhances It’s Prevalence on Resistance of Tuberculosis
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has been proactive in its efforts to combat tuberculosis, a highly infectious disease that poses a significant threat to public health.
Through its partnership with USAID and the Ministry of Health, the County Government, has been able to gather valuable data on the prevalence of drug resistance in the region.
Speaking during the meeting, Health Executive Dr. Sam Kotut highlighted the significance of data quality in the implementation of health programs stressing that without accurate and reliable data, it becomes difficult to effectively address the problem of drug resistance.
“By conducting the one-week exercise, the department aims to identify areas where drug resistance is more prevalent and develop strategies to manage and control it thus the importance of accurate and reliable data in tackling the issue of drug resistance in Tuberculosis,” says Dr Kotut.
Dr. Kotut emphasized the need to involve the community in the surveillance and management of drug resistance in Tuberculosis adding that by strengthening community engagement, the government can ensure that individuals are aware of the risks posed by drug resistance and are actively participating in efforts to prevent its spread.
According to Promotive and Preventive Health Chief Officer Dr Joyce Sang, surveillance systems play a key role in monitoring the spread of drug resistance and by implementing effective surveillance systems, the government can track the prevalence and patterns of drug resistance, allowing for timely intervention and prevention measures.
On his part, Director Promotive and Preventive Health Dr. Evans Kiprotich added that by focusing on data quality, community engagement, and surveillance systems, the department aims to effectively manage and control drug resistance therefore improving the health outcomes of the residents.
