Eldoret:KISIP Set to Transform Informal Settlements:Dr. Kosgey

Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member for the Department of Lands ,Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Dr. Janeth Kosgey has lauded the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Programme (KISIP) for giving a major boost to infrastructure developments that is to begin soon in various Informal Settlements in the County.

With an approval of over ksh.1.4 billion for Settlements Improvements at Ngomongo, Mwanzo, Shauri Yako, Kipkaren, KK, segero, Kasarani and Maili Nne, Dr. Kosgey noted that these are major projects which require total commitment, discipline and transparency in its implementation for its success. She expressed the residents eagerness to see KISIP phase 2 kickoff as it will improve the business sector, security, and also improve their economic growth.

While hosting the G.A consultants who are in the county to undertake community involvement in coming up with the designs and bidding of the works, Dr. Kosgey reiterated the need to keep information flow open for all participating parties to learn on best practices.

“As a county we appreciate the interventions that KISIP phase 1 did, and we also request for inclusion in the land tenure security program in Phase 2. I call upon all the County Programme Coordinating Team to ensure that all that is required by the consultant is availed. I want to reassure KISIP of our support and collaboration in the success of the programme,” said Dr. Kosgey

Dr. Eng. Elisha Akech, team leader from GA Consultancy appreciated commitment and involvement of the County leadership as witnessed in several occasions of the project progress meetings.

Dr. Akech said ,”Uasin Gishu County has been exceptional, involving the Governor, CECMS and C.Os, in the programme progress which is commendable,”.

Chief Officer Housing and Urban Development Mr Julius Koech, reassured the consultant of the County’s commitment to see to it that the programme is successfully executed.

“We have our team of Engineers and Quantity Surveyors that have already come up with designs and are finalizing on the bidding documents to steer the contract as soon as its approved by world bank,” said Mr. Koech

Team leader from the National Programme Coordinating Team, Mr. Sam Mbora, said that they will offer all support concerning Environment impact assessment together with advice from the NEMA team to address environmental issues.

CPCT Coordinator Ms. Nelly Jerotich, Director Physical Planning Mr Daniel Koech and Director Procurement Mr. Choge were also present.
