As Eldoret accelerates towards its goal of becoming Kenya’s fifth city, significant strides in rural road infrastructure have been marked by the County Government of Uasin Gishu. Recent developments, including the completion of Kewet Road and key drainage and road improvements, are laying the groundwork for sustainable urban growth and rural development.

Under the leadership of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, the county administration has focused on rural road development as a critical component of economic advancement. In a recent address during the launch of road infrastructure projects in Kapsaos Ward, Turbo Sub County, Governor Bii highlighted the role of improved roads in reducing poverty and enhancing economic opportunities for rural communities.

“My administration is dedicated to ensuring that we have good roads to connect farmers to market centers, which in turn supports increased production and reduces travel costs,” said Governor Bii. He praised the progress made over the past few years, emphasizing how these improvements are fostering trade and business growth.

County Roads Executive Eng. Joseph Lagat also reported on the department’s achievements for the 2023/24 financial year, including the grading of approximately 1,000 kilometers of roads, the graveling of over 90 kilometers, the construction of eight bridges and box culverts, and the opening of 51 kilometers of new roads. “These projects have significantly boosted agricultural activities and expanded access to goods and services,” Eng. Lagat stated during an inspection in Ngeria Ward.

Residents have expressed their appreciation for the advancements. In Kewet village, Evans Kimaru Lagat conveyed the community’s gratitude for the long-awaited rehabilitation of the 5-kilometer Kewet Road. “We are thankful to Governor Bii for fulfilling his promise and improving Kewet Road for the first time in history,” Lagat said. He urged continued collaboration among leaders to ensure ongoing development across the county.

As Eldoret continues its rapid urbanization, these rural infrastructure projects represent a cornerstone of the Governor’s strategy to foster both local and regional economic growth.
