Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Govenor Wesly Rotich has condemned the government for allowing Tiaty constituency to be a gun paradise.

Speaking during the burial of four people who were killed by bandicts at Kamogo and Kasegei village in Marakwet East , Rotich said this is uncalled for and ill intended since many lives have been lost in cold blood.

“Allowing Tiaty constituency to be a “Gun Paradise” since 1976 is a serious mistep by govt and if no serious effort is made to reverse this through socio-economic transformation then we are courting a disaster that will pose a threat to national security similar to the Oromo in Ethiopia,” said the Elgeyo Marakwet deputy governor while speaking to the press.

He reiterated that Killing 44 people in 4 months or 8 people in a month can be equated to a genocide/extermination in progress.

” Peace loving people inside Tiaty are getting scared and going quiet because of the fast growing number of armed bandits. As we were burying our brothers thesame bandits staged three attacks simultaneously at Soko bora, kabetwa and Chesuman villages,” he added.

He called on president Uhuru Kenyatta to personally intervene to end this menace.

“We urge the President to personally intervene in the short term by adding the number of NPRs and in the long run order for an affirmative action to open up Tiaty to the world through social economic transformation,” Rotich said.

He further noted that the perpetual marginalisation of Tiaty constituency by government and their leaders has led to the upsurge in banditry and making kerio Valley and suguta Valley the most dangerous places to stay in and hostile for children and women.

“We urge all our people living in kerio Valley to be vigilant and not to leave any livestock unmanned. The bandits are on steroids, they kill and maim at will and govt is extremely slow in its response,” he noted.
